Anchorage Opera 2021-22 “Season of Healing”

  • Tosca“All’s fair in love and war” Step into a web of politics, police brutality, betrayal and jealousy! Set against a backdrop of war, chaos and corruption in Rome, the beautiful, celebrated singer, Floria Tosca, must give the performance of a lifetime to save the man she loves from the tainted hands of the treacherous chief of police. Will she murder for the man she loves? Will she save her lover in time? Will she emerge as the victor or victim of her own destiny? Puccini’s sumptuous tale of ill-fated love captivates new and longtime opera lovers alike. With passionate arias and soaring, sensuous melodies, Tosca’s power and raw emotion will leave you breathless.
    (April 22, 23 & 24, 2022) – Discovery Theatre
  • Missing “The story we need to tell; the women we must remember”
When Ava, a young white woman, is thrown from her car and badly injured in a crash, she sees another body, a young native girl, lying on the ground. Their eyes meet…their worlds connect. This USA premiere production, indigenous led and cast, gives voice to the stories of missing and murdered indigenous women and girls. Hailed as an “extraordinarily moving and thought-provoking work…a milestone for the opera world…a healing journey in a magnificent mélange of singing, acting and music”, Missing, by distinguished First Nations playwright Marie Clements & Juno-award winning composer Brian Current, is a poetic expression of loss, hope and the spirit finding home.
    POSTPONED – Sydney Laurence Theatre
  • The Pirates of Penzance “Ahoy, Matey! Yo Ho Ho! Aarrgghh!”
Toss your worries overboard and set sail for swashbuckling adventure with softhearted buccaneers, dewy-eyed damsels, bumbling British bobbies and “the very model of a modern Major General”. Gilbert and Sullivan’s hilarious, hopeful farce is an action-packed musical romp, overflowing with memorable tunes, tongue-twisting texts and jaunty dances. Chart a course for this fun-filled voyage perfect for the whole family. The Pirates of Penzance – they’ll steal your heart away!
    POSTPONED – Discovery Theatre

Anchorage Opera acknowledges that we gather and are performing on the traditional lands of the Dena’ina Athabascans. For thousands of years the Dena’ina have been and continue to be the stewards of this land. It is with gratefulness and respect that we recognize the contributions, innovations, and contemporary perspectives of the upper Cook Inlet Dena’ina.
