Florence Rooney (1938 – 2018)
On Dec 5, 2018 we lost a beloved member of our opera family and our entire community. An avid arts supporter, Flo served on the Anchorage Opera Board of Directors for more than a decade and as its President from 1990-1991. She and her husband Jim have housed guest artists, hosted opera events in their beautiful home and supported our non-profit in countless ways. Words cannot express our gratitude for her contributions, nor our sorrow at her passing.
As we mourn her loss, we celebrate her life by dedicating our Alaska premiere production of An American Dream (Feb 15, 16 & 17, 2019) to her.
Additionally, the Anchorage Opera Board of Trustees has issued a $5000 Florence Rooney Memorial Challenge. Donations made in her memory through Feb 17, 2019, will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $5000, by the Anchorage Opera Board of Trustees. Won’t you help us reach that goal?
