We hope you were able to attend our wildly popular season opener, Carmen and that you will mark your calendars for our upcoming productions, the “Tango Opera” Maria de Buenos Aires (January 21, 22, 23 & 24, 2016) and Gilbert & Sullivan’s comic masterpiece The Mikado (April 15, 16 & 17, 2016). Anchorage Opera also wants to “take our act on the road” to the schoolchildren of Alaska with an all new Touring Education Program. Our entire community benefits when our children have the arts in their lives, and so we’ve partnered with the UAA Music Department to create and present a special children’s opera, Aklaq & Nayak (A Native Alaska Adaptation of Hansel & Gretel) on December 11, 12 & 13, 2015, which we hope to tour to schools in Alaska beginning in 2016.
We look forward to sharing the glorious music and theatrical splendor of our continuing Passport to Passion 2015-16 Season with you and we ask to you take a moment to reflect on the live theater experiences we present. Opera is the most expensive art form to produce with large casts of singers, full live orchestra, conductors, stage directors, dancers, choreographers, scenery, lighting, costumes, make-up, wigs…and more. Ticket sales comprise only a fraction of the total cost of Anchorage Opera productions and projects to benefit our community and we must rely on individual contributions to make up the difference. Your end of year tax-deductible donation can help us accomplish so much!
